I received an email asking me why I’ve set all of my posts to moderation in recent weeks and rather than answer it on my FAQ page, I believe I’d like to address it here on the comment policy/disclaimer.. The laws are pretty sketchy right now but in recent times, bloggers have been held accountable for the comments they allow to remain live. The blogger him/herself may not even agree with the inflammatory comment but if s/he allows it to remain publicly visible, s/he is contributing to the commission of the crime. This also goes for forum moderators and other publicly accessible groups. In some cases, it also applies to ‘private’ groups because the argument stands–how ‘private’ is private? If you selectively allow members of the public, you are still allowing the public in some manner. That is not to say that the blog owner will be sued or even that s/he might and it’s not to say that the blogger would win or lose if the matter was brought to litigation but ya know what? I don’t have the money to find out because either way, win or lose, fair or unjust, if it comes to a court appearance; everyone is paying through the teeth. So for the time being, bear with me.
