HOT new glasses and some *maybe* bad news..

I’ve been so ridiculously busy lately that I’ve barely had time to breathe, seriously. I’ve been running to dental appointments, doing kid visits and day adventures, out with friends a few times, and just generally running rampant with shit to get done. Earlier this week I had a filling done and a tooth extracted, my face feels like I’ve been pistol whipped, not that I’d really know what that felt like or anything, suffice it to say my whole jaw is some bloody tender.. It all kinda sucks too because I’ve felt so damn bone idle that I really haven’t wanted to do much more than lie atop my bed in my underwear with an electric fan aimed squarely over my midsection, chips in one hand and iced cola in the other.. And then there was today, that’s when I got the dreaded news..

I saw my eye doctor and I was explaining to him that I’ve had some rather unusual experiences lately with my vision. I told him about the odd roaming dark clouds and the need to strain far more than I used to. I told him about how my eyes nearly feel crossed some mornings and even some of my friends have noticed that I seem to have a mild lazy-eye in my photographs and I’ve never had that before this past year..

He’s hemming and hawing and making those litle worrying sounds while doing the exam and he asks if I’m finally off the prednisone to which I replied that yes, I haven’t touched it since a few months before my surgery back in March. He heaved a semi sigh of relief and explained that we needed to talk about just that in a few moments. My blood started to itch then, I felt what was coming and my hair near stood on end.

It seems that I’ve developed cataracts due to the extended prednisone therapy and he’s certain that is the cause because six and a half years ago my eyes showed no signs and today they’re mid-stage advanced.. He explained that I’ll likely need cataract surgery within the next four years, four years being pretty much certain blindness without the procedure. He figures that I’ll actually need it long before then though, he was trying to be optimistic. He says likely by year two I’ll seriously need to see a surgeon but he thinks I’ll qualify for Medicare coverage for the whole kit within a year and a half from now. He said that after the surgery I’ll probably have full vision restored meaning no more glasses except for reading and close-up stuff and then the glasses will be necessary..

I guess I’m nervous but it’s best to know of these things far in advance. The doctor says we’ll keep close watch and if I have any notable issues I’m to call him immediately and have him re-evaluate the situation so we can get me in for the surgery as soon as I qualify for coverage and that way there’s less suffering and walking out into traffic on my part.

I did order some really cute glasses today though, these pretties are geek-chic and they have that sexy librarian porn look to them but they’re classy as all get out, wait until you see them! The lady told me they’ll be ready in about two weeks at most but that shop usually has my stuff in in just over a week so I’m not too worried. They’re thick black frames, similar to the red frames I already have but they’ve got this neat looking white lace cutout design on the outside corners, very intricate and delicate but they totally work.

In any case, on to other less worrying topics, eh? This weekend is the big Pride parade here and a family fun day over at the park where the parade winds down. Vendors, BBQ, games for the kids and more! I’ve been collecting strays for the past two weeks so just my gang is going to resemble a parade all on it’s own. Later that night is the grown-ups fun. There’s a big Rainbow Colours dance party and I’m hoping to take a tribe out to that as well..

So yeah. That’s my week. How’s yours? I’ll be seein’ ya, huh?
Haha, get it? I kill me ;-)

Is there anything that Predniszone doesnt screw up in its effort to somehow “make you better”? Im so sorry to hear this and I hope you can get the surgery in enough time to save what you have left of your vision. :(

@kat, that damn prednisone.. Such a love/hate relationship with it.. For a long time it held my Crohn’s at bay but come to find out my original GI doc was abusing the hell out of it and I should have had the gut surgery years sooner and I wouldn’t be where I am now, it also destroyed my teeth and now my eyes.. I cannot even begin to imagine what might be next.. In regards to the surgery; thank goodness that my eye doc wants to stay totally ahead of the game, I’d literally be lost without him.

  • It’s always something, isn’t it? Keep us posted with the progress of THIS surgery.
